David vs Goliath

Last Friday, we waited with baited breath to hear the outcome of the 2010 B&T Awards.

CUBED was up for Victorian Agency of the Year and it was a huge coup to see our 5-year old agency reach finalist status along four well-established multinational advertising heavyweights – George Patts, Leo Burnett, Clemenger and Carat. In fact, the next youngest is 42 years old! Details »

Cheers x 3

Let us state upfront that we don’t set out just to win awards when we tackle a job. In true CUBED spirit, everyone sets out to get results for the client.

But when the work is well-crafted, when we’ve all put in that extra 5% and when that job has got the results, it would be churlish of us not to enter it into the award programs and see how we fare, mixing it with the big boys.

Some you win, some you lose.

Last Friday night, however, we won.

Three times.

Wheelmate Steering Wheel Desk Tray

On the internet there’s often a very short distance between a huge marketing win and a complete marketing fail.

Many companies ask for ‘viral’ campaigns, but often don’t realise just how much control they have to hand over to the general public in order for something to go viral. It’s gutsy.

So I was fascinated to see what Amazon have done in a situation that would make many marketers blanch.

It all started with their Wheelmate Steering Wheel Desk Tray. Yup, you guessed it – a tray that attaches to the steering wheel of your car to hold your laptop or your lunch.

Decisions. Decisions. Decisions.

Decision time for the good folk at ADMA was a month ago when CUBED Creative Director and offensive-t-shirt-wearer Dave was flown up to Sydney to be a creative judge. And he tells us judging was tough. Very tough.

Getting results gets results

If you’re judged on the results you achieve, surely your agency should be too.

That’s the philosophy that led to the creation of CUBED five years ago.

Timing needs to be right

As any good real estate agent will probably tell you, timing is king. Sure “Location, Location, Location” is their mantra, but there’s not a lot you can alter about location, whereas timing is all down to you.
